Audemars Piguet opens its Swiss Hotel designed by Bjarke Ingels

Luxe watchmaker Audemars Piguet has opened its first hotel in the heart of the Swiss watchmaking country, fittingly called Hotel des Horlogers.

The hotel and spa is designed by Bjarke Ingels and realised by Swiss architecture office CCHE in the Valley de Joux, 50 miles north of Geneva. It’s the same valley where the brand was founded in the village of Le Brassus in 1875. Ingels’ firm BIG has drawn on this horological heritage when designing the eco-hotel, which features a staggered, zig-zag design and green ramp roof that blends into the natural landscape.

The Swiss hotel meets Minergie-Eco requirements and is built with glulam beams made from sustainable spruce harvested nearby. Interior walls and ceilings are clad in reclaimed white beech, and there’s a zero-plastic policy across the entire hotel, which uses recycled bio-waste as fuel to provide hot water and heat the complex.

Its 50 minimalist bedrooms (which start from 348 CHF per night) are designed by AU*M. Each has a similar organic feel thanks to rock-like lighting and raw materials such as wood and stone, while floor-to-ceiling windows have views of the Risoud forest.

Hotel des Horologers’ two restaurants are led by three-Michelin-starred Chef Emmanuel Renaut and have a focus on locally produced ingredients. This regionality is echoed in the Spa by Alpeor too, where products are made with plants from the Valais area.
