The Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat ( CTBUH ) has released data chronicling the prevalence of buildings with total heights taller than 150 meters (492 feet) in major metropolitan areas across the world. The statistics speak to several yearslong industry-wide trends as well as a preference for the recently-halted practice of (extremely) tall-building in China, which had more entries in the Top 25 (10, excluding Hong Kong) than the United States, Canada, and Australia put together.

Construction starts dropped 9% in August despite promising gains in the manufacturing and residential sectors

The latest Dodge Construction Network figures show a decline in construction starts by 9% after a July spike that was propelled mostly by the nonresidential and nonbuilding sectors. Total starts now stand at an adjusted annual rate of $1.25 trillion. The August dip was caused by a 36% decrease in nonbuilding starts and minor increase in residential starts, which was recorded at only 1%.

August's Architecture Billings Index shows an accelerated increase in demand as economic concerns widen

An increase in the overall demand for design services has been recorded for the 19th consecutive month, according to statistics contained in the August Architecture Billings Index (ABI) published this week by the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
