SOM presents 'ready-to-build' Urban Sequoia? NOW design at COP27

Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM) has revealed an update to its Urban Sequoia project it says can be built right now, during a presentation that took place today at the COP27 climate summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt. SOM Partner Chris Cooper was on hand to make the presentation of his firm’s refined design for a carbon-sequestering building that can be used as a weapon in the fight against carbon emissions globally, three-quarters of which are generated from urban areas alone.

The cost of war damage to Ukraine's buildings and infrastructure has reached $127 billion

The latest analysis from the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) on the cost of direct damage to Ukraine's buildings and infrastructure since the beginning of the Russian military invasion of the country puts the estimate at $127 billion. The report shows the largest share (39.7%) of the surveyable damage comes from residential structures, totaling 135,800 and equal to about $50.5 billion.

Italian studio Stefano Boeri Architetti has adapted its Vertical Forest concept for a pair of skyscrapers in Dubai , which will be covered in thousands of trees. Revealed by Stefano Boeri Architetti yesterday at the COP27 climate change conference in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the project comprises two tapering towers at 190 and 150 metres tall.
