Tel Aviv -based Bar Orian Architects has unveiled a new residential project that blends past and present by integrating two contemporary buildings with a historic, early 20th-century villa. The development, titled Villa Rothschild, sits along Tel Aviv’s Rothschild Boulevard. The original structure known as the Beit Awad Villa was designed in 1926 by Russian architect Joseph Berlin.

Pratt Institute Provost Donna Heiland has announced the departure of Harriet Harriss as the School of Architecture's dean in an email sent to the Pratt community. Canada's first Ace Hotel has opened in Toronto , housed in a new building by Shim-Sutcliffe Architects that features a lobby suspended from huge concrete arches. The ground-up project was built in the city's Garment District, close to Downtown and the bustling Queen Street West area, which has a history of manufacturing but is now associated with arts and culture venues.

The New York chapter of the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) has released its 2022 Report Card for New York Infrastructure , issuing the state's infrastructure an overall grade of C. The rating is a slight improvement from its 2015 grade of C-. However, as detailed by the ASCE, a C rating indicates infrastructure that is mediocre and requires attention.

The Saudi Arabian government has unveiled visuals of a 500-metre-tall linear city named The Line, which will be built near the Red Sea as part of Neom. Set to stretch 170 kilometres across northwest Saudi Arabia, the megastructure, which will have mirrored facades, will be 500 metres tall, but only 200 meters wide. The mirrored skyscraper will run into the Red Sea.

The new Strata Wynwood mixed-use residential building, designed by global firm Stantec, is the newest addition to the Wynwood Arts District in Miami. The project includes 257 residential units, artist studios, three floors of office space, street-level retail, and 474 parking spaces. Set in Hancock Park, a historic residential enclave in central Los Angeles, the St. Andrews Accessory Dwelling Unit is designed in concert with an addition to the main house. Richly colored, V-groove fiber cement panels provide a visual connection between the new two-story ADU and the existing 1916 craftsman bungalow. Yet, the ADU also expresses contemporary features through its distilled sculptural form.

I have been involved with this particular site since I first arrived in California back in 1992. Upon it once sat the home of my first employer’s parents. That home burned along with so many others in the tragic Oakland Hills Fire of 1991. In 1992 I designed a home for the site, which was never built. The parcel changed hands several times over the decades until it arrived back in my sphere in 2012 when a friend of my then COO had purchased the lot.
