Paris’s Hotel Rochechouart is a taste of the Gatsby era

This Paris hotel in Pigalle is a jazz age time capsule, from its art deco facade to its original glass elevator and grand marble staircases.

Built in 1929 – and later used as an artist retreat before being co-opted by German soldiers – the Pigalle hotel has been completely overhauled by Paris design studio Festen. It has restored many of the building’s period features and paired them with new additions that complement its Great Gatsby atmosphere.

Deep green walls set off the top floor bedrooms’ view over the Sacré-Coeur, while dark wood furniture, vintage brass lamps and caramel upholstery complete the old-world atmosphere. Downstairs, the hotel’s restaurant wholeheartedly embraces its classic brasserie feel, sitting diners at bentwood cane chairs arranged around linen-covered tables.

Guests can also head to the hotel’s sunny rooftop, and enjoy the Montmartre views from beneath the safety and comfort of a striped awning and wrought iron bench.
