modular office furniture series by oma

PRINCIPLES is a modular furniture line designed by Rem Koolhaas-founded architecture firm OMA for the Milanese branch of international company offices UniFor. The central idea is to provide limitless ways of interaction and communication between the office members, all the while adding color and fun.

The series includes more than one hundred elements of different sizes that can be arranged in multiple ways to work in groups or independently. Linear, square, round, or triangular partitions can be connected to shape cozy nooks for privacy or semi-private places to meet and interact.

The collection is now on view in UniFor’s new showroom at Viale Pasubio 15 during Milan Design Week 2022.

designed for every type of space

PRINCIPLES sees the result of a close collaboration between OMA’s (see more here) design ideas and UniFor’s (see more here) technical and manufacturing expertise. The furniture spectrum is defined by simple yet rigorous forms that provide multiple and diversifiable functions and applications. The design team sought to create pieces that ensure the flexibility of the workplace and offer maximum functionality for its users. Thus, PRINCIPLES addresses every type of space and use from working, waiting, meeting, relaxing, or even a combination of functions.

Conceived as an interior micro-architecture, each space adopts its very own style. The series uses various forms, colors, and sizes to serve different work environments. Circular, triangular, or even giant donut-shaped sofas and upholstered islands with bold or pastel hues encourage a vivid, inviting work environment. Meanwhile, all the pieces blend high-tech materials, lighting, sound insulation, and cable management.

‘In designing this collection, we wanted to offer users flexibility in determining their own place of work. The modular system with a range of adaptable elements allows for exploration of different workplace configurations. UniFor’s expertise was instrumental in realizing this collection that suits the office space and beyond,’ said Philippe Braun, Associate, OMA.
