This design-savvy cabin is a slow escape in the Dorset countryside

Peeking out across the rolling hills and pastureland, this architect-built cabin marries style with sustainability in Dorset.

Dubbed The Bide, the red cabin is the handiwork of architect Scott Lewis (of Bath and Bournemouth firm, LAMA Studio) and Caroline Jenkinson, a buyer at Nordic design brand Åben. They spent their lockdown constructing the tiny home by hand, using the WikiHouse system.

Low carbon materials include its wooden CNC-cut frame, which is bolted together by hand, and insulated with sheep’s wool and wood fibre. Interiors are daubed in soothing pastel hues and are outfitted with clever eco-appliances including a waterless, composting toilet and a Nebia vaporised water shower that is said to use up to 40 per cent less water than a regular shower.

The Bide is located within a working farm, on the outskirts of the village of Milton Abbas, and starts from £100 per night in low season. Blandford Forum (known for its Georgian architecture) is a short drive away, and the cabin itself is bordered by a small coppice and pastureland perfect for walking.
