New report highlights inadequate oversight of building construction sites by the NYC Department of Buildings

According to a new report by the New York State Comptroller’s Office, 89% of the visited active construction sites across New York City had safety issues, highlighting the need for the improvement of the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) oversight of construction sites. Between June 10, 2021 and August 31, 2021, officials from the New York State Comptroller visited 43 construction sites in all five boroughs of New York City.

Atta Kwami’s final work lives on at the Serpentine Galleries

London’s Serpentine Galleries has emblazoned late artist Atta Kwami’s last piece of work on a wall in its North Garden. The mural is based on a painting Kwami was reworking in 2021 – the same year the Ghanaian painter won the Maria Lassnig Prize and sadly passed away. Entitled Dzidz? kple amenuveve (Joy and Grace), the mural is painted by artist Pamela Clarkson, his widow, and nods to African textile patterns as well as architecture from Kwami’s home country.
