Oficina Bravo has installed a hidden metal skeleton to a fire-ravaged historic building in the heart of Santiago, transforming it into a huge shared workspace.

Casona Compañía, as the building is known, has been uninhabited since 2016, when a blaze destroyed the second floor and facade of the 110-year-old structure. Chilean firm Oficina Bravo was tasked with restoring the building and transforming it into a creative coworking space.

The studio had to use historic construction techniques to bring back Casona Compañía’s exterior, and then install a metal latticework to create new spaces inside the building and shore up its facade.

While, on the outside, the coworking space is every inch a piece of historic architecture, things are more unexpected once guests step through the doors. Steel girders and staircases frame, and give access to, new spaces. Offices located at the back of the building are walled with glass and supported only by the metal framework.

Members have access to a cafe and cafeteria, as well as the ‘great hall’ meeting room, and a roof terrace looking over the nearby Barrio Yungay district. Prices start at £178 per month for two people.
