Cubist-style East Hampton home by Charles Gwathmey lists for an eye-watering $28m

Geometric volumes interconnect to create this modernist-style East Hampton house by Charles Gwathmey, which has the appearance of a cubist sculpture.

The shingle-clad Sagaponack village house was designed by Gwathmey – known for his 1980s restoration and expansion of Manhattan’s Guggenheim Museum and groundbreaking Long Island homes – as a poetic assemble of rectangles, cylinders and curves in 2005. It’s now up for sale for a whopping $27,995,000 via Corcoran. (Sagaponack is one of the priciest parts of the Hamptons, located between Bridgehampton and Wainscott, and is popular with celebrities).

Set across 8,000 sq ft, the coastal home features a soaring great room, with long continuous lines and a cavernous curved ceiling, and a glass wall, interspersed with a lattice timber frame that captures views of the grounds. Glass block accents also feature beside custom mahogany millwork, marble, and granite, while the gourmet kitchen is outfitted in sleek stainless steel.

The seven-bedroom East Hampton property sits on 2.44 acres of deeded ocean-accessible grounds. Ed Hollander landscaped the grounds, which include a heated gunite pool with a circular spa, and an attached pool house with a curved, covered sun terrace.
