The landscaping of the estate was carried out by botanist artist Liliana Motta, who drew inspiration from local flora and the landscapes of hillsides and pastures. The property is home to the award-winning restaurant and hotel La Colline du Colombier, which was established in 2008. Soon thereafter, the family owners called upon architect Patrick Bouchain to revive the rural complex.
The renovated agricultural buildings feature a material palette of raw concrete, brick, stone, and rammed earth. Exposed timber beams and restored frames add warmth to the large spaces, which are bathed in natural light thanks to floor-to-ceiling glazing.
The surrounding gardens were designed by Liliana Motta, who integrated low hedges and indigenous plant species and trees (including acacias and oaks) throughout. Picturesque views of the valley are framed in every direction.
The trio of cantilevering holiday houses, inspired by the region’s traditional stone huts, feature private outdoor seating areas.
Bouchain wrapped the sleeping areas in the larger buildings in hemp, jute, and sheep’s wool.
