The Life Outside Issue

Introducing the Life Outside issue of Habitus magazine. With life increasingly being absorbed into a digital space, there is never a more important moment to hold something tangible. In this context, the power of nature to have a physiological impact on our sense of wellbeing has never been more important. So how can we cultivate the benefits of the our natural environment in the most intimate of places – our homes? This was the question that helped to bring this issue of Habitus to life.

Joost Bakker is paving the way to a greener future

Joost Bakker continues to champion a different way to live more consciously, and sustainably – and his new movie takes it even further.

Dubbed the ‘poster boy of zero waste living’ by the New York Times Joost Bakker continues to thrill our green sensibilities. Now the eco warrior is going full mainstream with the release of Greenhouse by Joost – the movie.

“Imagine a house that grows its own food” posits Joost Bakker as he sets out to build a self-sustaining home in Melbourne’s CBD. Building an ecosystem that provides water, energy, shelter and food, the movie traces Joost’s progress through bureaucratic delays, blackouts and all the other foibles of building your own home!

Winner of the Audience Award at the Melbourne International Film Festival Greenhouse by Joost was also selected for both Adelaide Film Festival and Brisbane International Film Festival.

Eco-trailblazer, florist, entrepreneur, restaurateur, builder and zero waste champion, Joost is at the cutting edge of multidisciplinary sustainable living.

Greenhouse by Joost was released in Australian cinemas in November, check your local cinema for times.
