Chalet-like London loft asks for £450k

The power of cross-laminated timber is harnessed at this loft by architect Amin Taha, which brings chalet living to north London via warm timber interiors and an innovative eco-design.

The one-bedroom apartment is part of a 2017 ‘plyscraper’ in Dalston, dubbed the Spruce Apartments. Taha utilised CLT to fabricate the building – a sustainable and quick construction method that’s and growing in popularity across Europe and Canada.

On the market via The Modern House for £450,000, the London property is one of just six apartments in the building, which is clad in a textured brick and has oversized windows and boxy wicker balconies.

Raw timber floors, ceilings and custom space-maximising cabinetry unify the aesthetic of and add warmth to the interiors, which feel akin to a Swiss chalet.

The eco-credentials of the building add a feel-good factor too.

Says Taha: ’The ability of the CLT to serve as structure and finish removed the need for plaster-boarded walls, suspended ceilings, cornices, skirtings, tiling and paint; reducing by 15% the embodied carbon of the building, its construction cost and time on site.’
