Mark Davis and his team have done again everything possible to organize another extraordinary event for 2021 Modernism Week. We’re sure that even during this strange and uncertain period they wanted to send out a strong signal to the world when it comes to Mid-Century Modern architecture and interior design in the Coachella Valley! It all started with Fall Preview back in 2020 when the first videos appeared online and for 2021 many new ones have been added!
Since Modernism Week should actually have taken place these days, it is possible this year to book the individual online events until the end of February and still be able to stream them until the end of March.
The program also includes a look to the east coast and the history of Albert Frey’s Aluminaire House from 1931, which will soon be reassembled in Palm Springs. The story about Albert Fey’s project is definitely worth a look here!
In April there will be a slightly reduced Modernim Week in Palm Springs with many (walking) tours and other great events if the current situation allows but without lectures.
Here is an overview of what we’ve booked and watched online so far:
Frey: Part 1 – The Architectural Envoy
Frey: Part II – The Architectural Interpreter
Introduction to Rudolph Schindler, Architect
Modern New Canaan – Evolution of Design
‘Philip Johnson – a Visual Biography’ and the Glass House
Albert Frey, the 1931 Aluminaire House
Architectural Driving Tour of Palm Springs
The Desert Modernists Video Series with Alan Hess
Landis Gores In New Canaan: An Architect’s Story
Mr. Modernism‘s Neighborhood
Thank you Modernism Week for another great event but we still miss you all so much and look forward to seeing you again in Palm Springs next year!
PS: And don’t forget to consider a stay at beautiful Casa De Monte Vista in Palm Springs this April. our dear friend Joe Luisi would be very happy to welcome you to his wonderful home – believe us, it’s unique!
