The Gessner brings members club-inspired living to London’s rental market

Property company Way of Life has launched 164 new rental homes in north London’s Tottenham, hiring Fettle Design to create retro-inflected interiors that ditch drab magnolia and embrace bespoke design.

Dubbed The Gessner, the apartment block adopts a ‘members club’ approach to living, with communal spaces – including an on-site cafe, kitchen and gym – available for residents to share. While these features are more common in condominiums buildings across the pond, they’re still something of a novelty in the UK where mixed-use is the norm, especially in purpose-built rental accommodations.

Fettle Design has used an autumnal palette of reds, oranges and yellows for The Gessner’s rooms a vintage feel. Much of the apartment block’s furniture is bespoke, designed to fit individual apartments’ layouts while maximising storage. Fettle Design focused on a largely natural materials palette, using wood panelling, stone and leather to create a welcoming and earthy atmosphere.

Residents can also enjoy the less obvious perks of the ‘members club’ aesthetic: bathrooms are stocked with Earl of East products, ceramics are handmade, walls curated with art and YogaMatters workout equipment is available in each apartment.

If the dwellings – which range from one to three bedrooms and £1300-£3060 PCM – feel like a high-end hospitality experience, that’s thanks to Fettle Design’s background working with hotels and restaurants around the world.

Says Fettle’s director and co-founder, Andy Goodwin: We utilised many of the same suppliers we use within the member’s clubs, hotels, and restaurant projects that we work on and believe that this alongside our extensive experience of these spaces has created a unique perspective to this residential scheme.’

The Gessner is the latest addition to Way of Life’s portfolio, which includes apartment blocks in Kent, Leicester and Birmingham – all of which can be rented ready-furnished, and with an on-site team that manage bills and repairs.

Guests can book a two-night trial stay in the block, from £110 per night, to experience all the resident perks before committing or book them for visiting family and friends.
