The Pyramids of Giza form the backdrop for a new AR art show

‘Forever is Now II’ provides AR technology to help viewers see ambitious work at the Giza site

Collectors in Egypt this month to tour the annual Cairo International Art District (CIAD) festival can witness the first art exhibition to use the Pyramids of Giza as a canvas, aided by AR technologies.

Forever is Now II harnesses the narrative potential of AR in the artistic sphere. Using the pyramids as a backdrop, it meditates on the past, present and the connections between man and technology, nature and inheritance with ambitious public artworks by 12 Egyptian and international artists.

Works combining natural and industrial materials set off the ancient stone of the 4,600-year-old pyramids. AR filters at the site help visitors navigate the exhibition and understand the art in its ancient context.

The exhibition, launching today and on display through 30 November, was conceived by Art D’Égypte in collaboration with Meta. Through the immersive experience, it envisions a future rooted in a deep appreciation of the past. Founded by women to support Egyptian arts and culture, Art D’Égypte commissioned works by JR, eL Seed, Jwan Yosef, Emilio Ferro, Zeinab Al Hashemi, Therese Antoine, Pascale Marthine Tayou and others.
