Architectural Pathfinders: Breaking the Mold with Architect Anthony Falgiano

Breaking the Mold

When we think of the path to becoming an architect, a structured sequence of education and certification usually comes to mind. However, Anthony's unique journey demonstrates that there is no single route to success in this field.

Breaking the Mold

In this episode of The Young Architect Podcast, Architect Anthony Falgiano is here to share his inspiring story of how he chased his dream to becoming a Licensed Architect no matter what obstacles stool in his way. It can truly be said that Anthony is Breaking the Mold.

In his younger years, Anthony found his passion for building things hands-on, working alongside his uncle and grandfather as a cabinet maker during the summers. This experience cultivated an innate understanding of construction principles and a love for creating beautiful, functional spaces.

Despite not attending a traditional architecture school, Anthony was able to chart a different course. He dedicated over 15,000 hours working under a Registered Architect (RA) to become eligible to take the Architect Registration Examination (ARE). This route isn't easy or typical but demonstrated his tenacity and passion for the field.

Passing the initial exams was a proud moment, but the technical sections posed a significant challenge. To overcome this, he enrolled in the ARE Boot Camp. This community was instrumental in his journey, providing resources, support, and camaraderie that made the strenuous process more bearable.

A career detour led Anthony to spend 15 years in the mining industry, yet his architectural dreams never waned. Once he secured his architect's license, he returned to the traditional architecture field. Recently, he accepted an exciting new position that he attributes to the perseverance and dedication he put into becoming licensed.

Anthony's unconventional path is a testament to the power of determination, hard work, and lifelong learning. His advice to aspiring architects? Always be ready to take the road less traveled and remember that your unique journey can lead to rewarding opportunities in the architectural world.
