Join us for an in-person lecture with Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey, founders of O’Donnell + Tuomey.
Established in 1988 O’Donnell + Tuomey is an award-winning studio-based practice, with offices in Dublin, Cork and London. Committed to the craft and culture of architecture, they have been involved with urban design, cultural, social and educational projects at home and abroad. The practice has an international reputation for its engagement with complex urban situations and sensitive landscapes.
To coincide with the publication of More Space for Architecture, Sheila and John will discuss their new projects, buildings on site, unbuilt competition designs, collaborations and parallel studies, works carried out in the past seven years. They will read short extracts from the new book and illustrate their lecture with drawings, models and photographs of houses, housing, educational and public buildings. For their understanding of architecture, it can be said that everything begins with the plan. And from this starting point, the pivotal role of the plan, they will set out their approach to space, volume and structure.
The evening will begin with a short recital by Martin Hayes, renowned Irish fiddler. The lecture will be introduced by Eugene Downes, Cultural Director at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland. After the lecture by Sheila O’Donnell and John Tuomey, there will be an audience Q&A. Afterwards there will be the opportunity to purchase a signed copy of More Space for Architecture.
