The studio was careful to retain as much of the building's character as possible, highlighting the existing features like original masonry and steam radiators, and restoring them where necessary. Surrounded by 14 large windows on two sides and boasting ceilings over 13 feet (four metres) tall, this room is light-filled and spacious.

The school is named after pioneering female aviator Louise Thaden and is backed by the Walton Family Foundation, which is led by Walmart's founders. The grounds feature a "productive landscape" used for growing food and a "restorative landscape" that is meant to address flooding and work to revive native ecosystems.
