Human rights organisation ALQST reported that three people who were evicted from the Neom site have been sentenced to death and UN Human Rights Council experts expressed "alarm" over the imminent executions. The resort gained global attention in 2022 when it was announced that it had won the right to host the 2029 Asian Winter Games.
